Changelog

WhatTheCSS 1.0: the initial public release. The headline of what it does, plainly stated.

1.0.0

Initial release
  • Hover any element on any website to see its authored CSS: the real declarations, in the units they were written, with framework noise (--tw-*, --chakra-*) filtered out.
  • Two views, toggled with V: Default (the full CSS) and Peek (typeface, weight, the key colors, and WCAG contrast).
  • Freeze with Space to open a four-tab live editor (CSS, Contrast, Box, and Tree) and edit any value in place. Click an element to copy its CSS, clean.
  • Pseudo-classes, resolved CSS variables, and @media overrides, all shown the way the browser actually applies them right now.
  • Pro: copy a whole component (its tokens, @media, and fonts), audit a page (palette, fonts, design tokens), export to CodePen, as an HTML snippet, or as clean Tailwind on Tailwind sites, and keep a personal component library.
  • Private by design: nothing runs until you activate it on a tab, and there is no analytics or telemetry. One network call a day validates a Pro key, if you have one.
